Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt Season 2: 6 Things You Need To Know

1. There's No Sophomore Slump...

...It's the comeback of the year.

Although Netflix tends to mean some guarantee of quality, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt wasn't a guaranteed success, especially since it was never created for the streaming service in the first place. So, with it being something of a surprise hit, it's understandable that there may have been doubts about the second season. Would they be able to replicate the formula? What would drive the show now Kimmy is re-established in society and the Reverend is behind bars?

Thankfully, there is no second season syndrome on display here. The show still feels incredibly fresh, a lot of which comes from the sheer enthusiasm and likability of its main character, and it's just as smartly-written and funny as the first season was. Whether it will sustain that over the back half of the season remains to be seen, but then the second-half of Season 1 was stronger than the first. If it's strong out of the gate, then there's optimism for the rest of it, and this show is all about being optimistic.

It's not perfect, and there are a couple of plot points they'll need to correct going forwards (the Dong storyline being the main one, but they'll also need something to really drive things on to its finale).
