Mother Katjaa and son Duck travel with husband and father Kenny, and after Duck is bit in an ambush by walkers he must be taken care of. Following an initial period of denial, Katjaa finally confronts Kenny and explains that she is going to put her son out of his misery. It's a beautifully sad moment of a mother coming to terms with the unimaginable but ultimately taking control of the situation. Or so we think. After taking Duck into the woods to put him to rest before turning, a gunshot rings out in the air. Upon inspection however, the player realizes Katjaa has taken her own life instead of Duck's, unable to deal with the magnitude of her responsibility. And who can really blame her? Why It's So Brutal What's worse though is that a slowly dying Duck has had to witness his own mother's suicide, surely feeling a certain responsibility while also knowing that he must be next. Another big decision in the game comes at this point when you can either let Kenny kill his own son, do it yourself or let the poor kid succumb to the disease and reanimate. Either way, it's a horribly bleak situation with absolutely no silver lining in sight. Poor Kenny is left shell-shocked regardless of the decision, his family taken from him forever and it stands out as one of the saddest moments in the series.
