The Walking Dead: Hershel’s 11 Most Badass Acts

8. Hershel Fills A Barn With Walkers

Hershel Barn When the zombie apocalypse began, I'm sure most people were trying to get as far away from them as possible. Leave your home and find refuge elsewhere. But standard protocol isn't good enough for Hershel. Hershel doesn't run. Instead, he stays on his farm and starts collecting walkers in the barn next door. He embraces danger with open arms. In fact, he provides it with better room and board than he offered Rick and the group. In €˜Secrets€™ (S2 E06), Hershel argues with Dale about keeping walkers in the barn. Like Lizzie, Hershel views the walkers as people. Grunting, rotting, and smelly people, but people, nonetheless. He explains they don€™t know the extent of the disease, but in his eyes, it could still be cured. Like Dale, Hershel is a humanist €“ they're always looking for the good in people, and they€™re always trying to help. But this moment demonstrates Hershel isn't just a humanist, he's a badass humanist. Even if they're dead and trying to kill him, he can see the best in people. Simply put, Hershel puts himself within the reach of danger for the off-chance to help others. He may grow out of his wacky walker perspective, but his fearless attitude remains. And it€™s exactly this attitude that inspires a lot of Hershel€™s badass moments that are still to be listed.
