9. Hershel Pulls A Bullet Out Of Carl

After Carl is shot in the woods, he's brought to Hershel, the only man capable of saving him. He's a surgeon, right? Nope. Hershel's just a veterinarian. But he has the tools to operate, at least? Not if Shane and Otis can't bring them back. In 'Save The Last One' (S2 E03), Hershel tells Rick and Lori he can't wait for Shane and Otis any longer he has to operate on Carl immediately. Shane arrives just in time, but Hershel was never going to back down from a risky challenge. The lack of tools and experience doesn't stand in Hershel's way he adapts to the situation and takes control. This action is crucial to setting the scales in Hershel and Rick's relationship. Rick and Lori could only watch as Hershel took charge to saved Carl. As a result, Rick consistently submits to Hershel's demands, trying to achieve the standards set by the man who saved his son. After taking out Rick's blood, Hershel's always got a finger on his pulse. In The Walking Dead, it's become commonplace to put a bullet in a walker's head. In fact, the group is willing to put a bullet in anyone's head when it comes to their personal survival. Even Carl can do it. But Hershel's willing to get his hands bloody in a way that many other characters wouldn't even consider. Rick can put a bullet in someone's chest, but Hershel can pull a bullet out.
