Westworld Premiere: 8 Ups And 2 Downs From 'The Original'

2. Meet Thy Maker

One of the standout scenes of the episode comes right towards the end, when Dr John Ford sits down for a 'chat' with Peter Abernathy (Dolores' father).

At first, it's all pretty straightforward stuff. Ford asks about his "drives", which are the things the hosts are programmed to do and want, and Peter gives the answers he's supposed to. But then it starts to turn, slowly at first, but gradually you realise something is going rather wrong.

Bernard states that they're "miles beyond a glitch," before Peter himself reveals what he really wants: to meet his maker, and get revenge. It's a wonderful scene, quoting from Shakespeare and superbly played by Louis Herthum, who imbues Peter with a sense of growing madness and righteous anger. The tension in the scene is palpable, right up until the switch on the robot is turned off, and it's the biggest sign yet of something going very, very wrong.
