20 Worst Moments In Modern Doctor Who (According To YOU)

14. The Twelfth Doctor’s Midlife Crisis (The Magician’s Apprentice)

Whether or not you agree that they went too far with the Twelfth Doctor’s abrasive personality in Series 8, the transition into Series 9 was something else entirely.

It would've made sense for Twelve to mellow gradually over time, but instead we go straight from stern alien to "cool", carefree grandad, as if he’s had an off-screen midlife crisis.

See the “rockstar” entrance in The Magician’s Apprentice where he’s playing guitar on top of a tank, in a medieval castle, while wearing shades. We don’t know that they’re sonic at this point, so he just looks like one of those twits who wears sunglasses indoors.

Almost everything about him is different, from his more casual attire to the fact that he’s happy to hug Clara. And don’t get us started on the whole “DUDE!” thing.

We’re meant to believe this has all come on because the Doctor’s scared he’s going to die… or something?

It's not the absolute worst thing ever put to screen but it's definitely a bit weird, and you can see why people wouldn't click with it.
