10 Biggest Heat Generators In UFC History
1. Colby Covington
There is one reason Sonnen didn’t make number one on this list, and it’s because no fighter has ever generated the amount of heat from fans and fellow fighters like that of Colby Covington. Whether it be his Trump supporter persona, his verbal barrage towards opponents and crowds alike, his spoiling of movies on Twitter, or his label of nerds and virgins towards his haters, there is simply something for anyone and everyone to hate about Colby Covington.
Since Covington bashed the entire country of Brazil after beating Demian Maia, he has continually escalated this behavior and his trash talk. He’s trash talked pretty much everyone in and outside the Welterweight Division and has an Interim Welterweight Title win to back it up. Most notably, Covington has taken aim at the likes of Kamaru “Marty” Usman, Tyron Woodley, Rafael Dos Anjos, Ben Askren, UFC commentator Michael Bisping, and even Jon Jones.
This has led to many instances outside the Octagon as well. Most notably altercations with Tyron Woodley’s mother while in the crowd at UFC 235, with Nate Diaz at the same event, with Kamaru Usman and his manager Ali Abdelaziz in a hotel buffet line, and pretty much every fighter in his division backstage at UFC press conferences. In Colby’s defense, he never seems to be the one who starts these outside incidents, though they are all a testament to just how much heat this guy generates.
On a more positive note, Colby is a very talented fighter and has even garnered sympathy from fans for constantly being passed over for a title shot. So if there’s nothing else nice to say about Colby, at least there are many fans who hope he finally gets the title shot he has long deserved.
