10 UFC Fighters Who Lost To Surprising Opponents

8. Claudio Silva Def. Leon Edwards

Looking at Claudio Silva's 14-3 record, which included a 14-fight win streak that lasted 12 years, it's kind of difficult to believe that he would have a "surprising" win over anybody. That said, Silva's performances lately have been lackluster and his record seems largely padded with victories over subpar opponents.

Well, save for Leon Edwards.

With only two legitimate losses in his career, Leon "Rocky" Edwards is one of the most feared contenders in the UFC's Welterweight division. While one of those was a Unanimous Decision loss to current Welterweight Champion Kamaru Usman, the other was a Split Decision loss in his first-ever fight with the promotion at UFC Fight Night: Shogun vs. Saint Preux on November 8th, 2014.

And, of course, his opponent was none other than Claudio Silva.

This three-round chess match saw Edwards largely getting the better of the exchanges on the feet and Silva exhibiting a stronger ground game. The fight could've been decided either way, but ultimately, it was Silva who would walk away with the razor-thin W.

Following this fight, we wouldn't see Claudio Silva in the octagon for nearly four years, as he was sidelined with a litany of injuries. While he's gone 2-2 since coming back, Edwards has won 10 of his last 12 fights, the only two outliers being the aformentioned loss to Usman and a No Contest via accidental eye poke to Belal Muhammad. Edwards' next fight with Nate Diaz may very well put him next in line for a Welterweight title shot, while the future remains unclear for Silva.
