After losing the UFC heavyweight title to Daniel Cormier last July, Stipe Miocic made his return to the Octagon a year later and regained his belt. It wasn't easy for the now, two-time heavyweight champ as Cormier looked absolutely fantastic for the first two rounds of the fight.

The Olympian stayed on the inside of his opponent, peppering him with big strikes to the head. Cormier even incorporated his wrestling, picking the 36-year old up and slamming him to the canvas in fantastic fashion. However, the Ohio native showed the heart of a champion and came back into the fight.

Miocic made adjustments in the fourth round and started to land some brutal left hooks to Cormier's body. These took it's toll on Cormier and Miocic took advantage. After landing a brilliant right hand, Miocic swarmed the champion and landed strikes until the referee yanked him off.

The grudge match between Anthony Pettis and Nate Diaz culminated in a fantastic welterweight match-up where Diaz took the decision victory. The two enemies engaged on the feet, with Pettis looking competitive for most of the first round. However, Diaz eventually wore on the former lightweight champion, putting him up against the cage and peppering him with punches and knees.

The real turning point for the fight happened in the second round when Pettis attempted a low kick. Diaz managed to block the kick and this injured Pettis' leg, slowing him down significantly for the remainder of the fight. When it hit the ground, Diaz outclassed Pettis, taking his back and nearly finishing Pettis with a rear naked choke. It was an incredible win for a fighter who hadn't fought in nearly three years. The fan-favourite called for a fight with Jorge Masvidal next which could have some serious repercussions for the welterweight division.

Paulo Costa and Yoel Romero put on one of the best fights of the year, with the young Brazilian middleweight winning a tough three round war against the former title contender. Both fighters had their moments during the fight, dropping each other with crushing punches in round one.

The second and third round were no different, as both men landed and absorbed and insane amount of strikes. Costa did some sensational work to the body, while Romero landed numerous head shots to the 28-year old's head. Despite it being a back-and-forth affair, Costa was able win a decision victory, remain undefeated and prove that he is, without a shadow of a doubt, a top contender at 185lb.
