10 AEW Full Gear 2020 Impulse Reactions

7. Cody (c) Vs. Darby Allin

Darby Allin was named in the Speaking Out allegations. Wrestling's biggest cloud this year still hangs heavy over all that caused it, and while Cody Vs Darby Allin wasn't the first match impacted by it, it was perhaps the most poignant.

When Cody drew with Allin at Fyter Fest 2019 on the latter's debut, he did so to establish both his opponent and the very result itself. Subsequent victories have been about doubling down on the gulf between them. It's been one of AEW's most immersive legacy tales, and the gripping Full Gear finale was set in motion the first time they every locked up.

But immersion was the problem, and for some it always will be. There are objectively good matches to be found all over the wrestling world, even during a year rocked by a global bastard that simply will not subside. This will be viewed by some as one of them - just not here.
