10 AEW Full Gear 2020 Impulse Reactions

6. Hikaru Shida (c) Vs. Nyla Rose

Hikaru Shida and Nyla Rose had not an issue between them two weeks out from Full Gear. Before Alex Marvez pulled the microphone away from the Champion, she accepted the bratty terms of the 'Native Beast' when news came through that Rose wasn't prepared to wrestle again unless she got a title.

Same old problems for the same old Women's Division in All Elite Wrestling. Same old match? Well yes, literally so, considering they fought at May's Double Or Nothing. Fortunately, this, like that, was another mini-banger.

Shida started with a flurry, downing Rose with knee upon knee before dominating on the floor until Vickie Guerrero attacked from behind with the referee otherwise engaged. This was narratively important - what other purpose has she really served up to this point?

She popped up later on when the two women pulled each other up after certain wins. The peacocking contest was broken up by another Guerrero distraction, but a fumbling brawl outside seemed to kill the heat at the worst possible moment before the titleholder retained. After Shida's victory, the Vicious Vixens appeared to fall apart at the seams, which was something. The whole thing gingerly trotted over a low bar, but the division still has a long, long way to go.
