10 AEW Full Gear 2020 Impulse Reactions

5. FTR (c) Vs. The Young Bucks

In the run-up to Full Gear, merely noting that the booking for the dream match had gone awry became almost as laborious as the booking itself. The fanbase at large remained in a constant state of bargaining over it - the match would be the match, regardless of how we got here. The match would be the match, regardless of the stipulation. The match would be the match even if Tully Blanchard wasn't ringside to watch it.

The great vibes generated by the entire show up to this point were in stark contrast to the ugly energy permeating All Out when FTR disappointed in their victory over Kenny Omega and Hangman Page. That same evening saw The Young Bucks find their fire against The Jurassic Express, and this match may as well have the next one that mattered for The Jacksons. Well up for the fight from the off, their slick double teams proffered the peppery hot start whilst showing plenty of the ankle injury installed as Matt's undoing.

From there, it was part-tag team tribute hour, part-Revival destruction derby, part-fireworks factory. A match that forever looked like it might slide slightly off the rails never did, and a quality finish saw the nearly-broken Matt win with a superkick after Cash Wheeler broke his team's No Flips policy with fatal consequences.

This had enormous expectations and delivered upon them, at very least. That, for now, is more than enough.
