With the ring clad American Football splendour and surrounded by cheerleaders, Raw opened up with its first ever Fatal-4-Way tag team match. The Smoking Gunns took on Yokozuna and Owen Hart, Razor Ramon and Savio Vega, and finally Sycho Sid and the 1-2-3 Kid. The match had so many gridiron references, the most ardent NFL fan would have become confused and actually questioned whether he/she was watching wrestling or 'football'. This woefully tragic move came off the back of college football's Bowl Week madness. Earl Hebner was dressed as an NFL official and each team was also allowed a time out. One final football comparison saw the Brooklyn Brawler present the winning team with a trophy. The Smoking Gunns won the bout and subsequently smashed the Brawler's prestigious trophy on the locker room floor.
