It was in those darkest of times that Tony Khan's promotion seemed to find a way to deliver more flickers of hope than ever.

Jon Moxley's passionate first reign with the AEW World Championship. The late Mr. Brodie Lee's epic rise. And the sort of in-ring work that could instantly drag you away from the depressing reality outside your door week, after week, after week.

But the moment that easily ranks as the most memorable and celebrated occurrence from those dark mid-pandemic days came during a particularly cold night on the All Elite calendar known as Winter is Coming.

With AEW ultimately sending their audience home with the infuriating visual of Kenny Omega cheating his way to a victory against Jon Moxley and first AEW World Championship win, Tony Khan knew he had to deliver a simply euphoric moment of unexpected awesomeness beforehand.

And he did not disappoint with the debut of an Icon.

Producing the closest thing to a monster pop as humanly possible in a depleted Daily's Place, Sting's entirely unanticipated arrival - after being attached to WWE up until May - very nearly broke the wrestling Internet out of the gates. And once again proved just how much of a force the one-of-a-kind WCW legend still could be on his day.

Saying nothing, Sting was able to leave audiences hanging on his every stare throughout an absolutely electric three-minute TNT return. And, perhaps even more amazingly, the best was still yet to come from the Icon on AEW TV...
