10 Most Awkward Real Life Relationships In Wrestling History
7. Jeff Jarrett & Kurt Angle & Karen Angle
Karen Smedley became Karen Angle in 1998 when she married Kurt Angle while Kurt was working in Memphis for the WWF's developmental territory, Power Pro Wrestling. She stayed away from the eye of the camera for nearly a full decade, outside of a couple blink-and-you-miss-it appearances in the WWF, before finally becoming an on-screen character for TNA in 2007. Almost immediately, she rose to the top of many a wrestling fan's "Hottest Women In Wrestling" list. It didn't take long for Kurt and Karen's on-screen characters to discuss divorce, in a storyline where Karen had walked out and Kurt basically had to beg for her to come back home. Little did we know that art was imitating life, and that Karen had actually filed for divorce, which would be finalized in October 2008. Sad story, but not enough to be included on this list as it is. In 2009, the world would find out that Karen was not only dating Jeff Jarrett, but had been living with him for a while. Their relationship went back to the time when Karen and Kurt were separated, which led many to wonder if it went back to when Karen was still living with Kurt. There was Kurt Angle... one of the best wrestlers of all-time, in both the amateur and professional worlds... going to work in TNA, and not only seeing his ex-wife, but seeing her dolled up and on the arm of his co-worker, who just so happened to be one of the men responsible for getting him to the company in the first place! Instantly, fans were on Kurt's side, again under the impression that Karen had cheated on him while their relationship was still intact. TNA was smart to get Kurt, Karen and Jeff involved in a storyline together. You could use the real life tension that had to be there, and use it to your benefit with intriguing and entertaining television. All three of them kept it professional, and did provide that intriguing and entertaining television, but without crossing any lines and turning a work into a shoot, even though they all had the ammo to do so.
