10 Best Matches In WWE NXT History
2. Andrade Almas Vs. Johnny Gargano (TakeOver: Philadelphia) (2018)
Dave Meltzer takes plenty of flak for his perceived bias towards matches that take place in the Tokyo Dome, but he is a man who has been reporting on wrestling for three decades. He knows a good match when he sees one.
The great thing about this contest is that it came as something of a surprise. Neither Almas nor Gargano are slouches in the ring, of course, but the latter seemed like the archetypal placeholder challenger, making the outcome something of a foregone conclusion.
But WWE succeeded in making fans forget all about that on the night, entrusting the duo with the rare opportunity to go for more than half an hour in a match filled with spot after toe-curling, blood-curdling spot.
As with last year, when AJ Styles versus John Cena virtually secured the mantle of WWE's match of the year in January, this one is going to be incredibly difficult for any two men or women to better during the remainder of 2018.
