At WrestleMania IV, the WWE Championship was on the line in a 14-man tournament filled with some of the biggest stars of the 1980s. It was ultimately won by Randy Savage, who had to win a total of four matches to secure the title. Savage defeated Butch Reed, Greg Valentine, One Man Gang and Ted DiBiase, with the latter two men having received byes.

Savage beat Reed handily enough, though he struggled a bit with Valentine before scoring a small package pin. One Man Gang, tactical genius that he was, got disqualified for hitting an already exhausted Savage with a cane in clear view of the referee.

Macho Man went on to wrestle a full match with the much fresher DiBiase, which he won when Hogan ran out to hit Andre (and Ted, because Hogan was a flagrant cheat) with a chair.

It's the first MMRS world title win, but it could easily have topped this list if the brackets had unfolded differently; Ricky Steamboat had been in the tournament, but lost to Greg Valentine in round one. On a night all about making the Macho Man look like the biggest star in the world, why wouldn't you run Savage-Steamboat II?
