10 Best WCW Moments Ever
7. Sting Beats Ric Flair
Turning the clock back to 1990, Sting was being positioned as the man to lead World Championship Wrestling through the coming decade. It's startling to think that Ric Flair was the one being used to prepare Sting. The 'Nature Boy' had dominated the 1980's, but was there to pave the way for his younger peer in act of selflessness not many associate with legends of his standing.
At The Great American Bash that year, Sting finally managed to topple Flair and become WCW World Champion. Making things even more satisfying, fans were virtually guaranteed to have cause for celebration. The Four Horsemen were kept at bay by The Steiner Brothers, Junkyard Dog and Paul Orndorff, allowing Sting to have his way with Ric.
A perfect scenario, Sting reversing Flair's attempt at a Figure Four Leg Lock into a Small Package pin sent the crowd into a frenzy. Crowned champion, the Stinger was poised to be WCW's top babyface sensation for years to come.
Adored by many who followed the promotion's programming, Sting now had the belt to back up his lofty status. Just listen to that pop when the referee counts Flair's shoulders to the mat.
