10 Best Wrestlers In NJPW (Right Now)
1. Tomohiro Ishii
The G1 tournament isn't over yet, but already, Tomohiro Ishii is the MVP of the whole thing. Anyone who's been watching and paying attention knows this to be a fact. For years, the 'Stone Pitbull' has been putting on spectacular singles matches, but his profile has remained relatively low-key while the likes of Okada, Naito, and Omega have made New Japan a mainstream brand overseas.
However, thanks to his incredible matches this tournament with Kota Ibushi, Hirooki Goto, and Kenny Omega, everyone is now giving Ishii his proper due. Not only can he strike harder than anyone in the company, but his small stature can make him the natural underdog in any situation, even when wrestling pure babyfaces like Ibushi.
And don't think Uncle Dave has not given Ishii his due. Thus far in this tournament, he's earned 4.75 stars against Ibushi and Naito, 5 stars against Goto, and this week, Dave once again broke his rating system to give Ishii-Omega 5.5 stars.
While there are more accomplished wrestlers on this list, Ishii is on a roll like no other right now. Needless to say, we're eagerly awaiting his IWGP Heavyweight Title shot in the fall.
