10 Best Wrestling Trilogies
7. Chris Jericho Vs Shawn Michaels (Great American Bash 2008, Unforgiven 2008, No Mercy 2008)
Chris Jericho returned to WWE in late 2007 as a babyface, but he had trouble finding his niche in the company he had left two years earlier. It wasn't until he turned heel - following a vicious attack on Shawn Michaels - that he began to show everyone why he was the best in the world.
When Michaels, who had recently retired Ric Flair, was a guest on Jericho's Highlight Reel, Y2J called him a hypocrite and threw him into the Jeritron 6000, lodging a piece of glass in HBK's eye. Michaels was put on the shelf, but when he returned, he wanted a match with the man who'd injured him. They fought at the 2008 Great American Bash, and Jericho won via referee stoppage when he repeatedly attacked Michaels's damaged eye.
Michaels's career was put in jeopardy. At SummerSlam, he and his wife addressed the WWE Universe to let them know that he might have wrestled his last match, but Jericho interrupted, demanding Michaels credit him with ending his career. The showdown led to violence, and Jericho accidentally punched HBK's wife. That brought "The Showshopper" out of retirement, and he took on Jericho in a non-sanctioned bout at Unforgiven 2008. This time, Michaels's attack was so overwhelming that the referee had to stop the bout and award him the match.
Jericho actually managed to come back later that evening to capture the World Heavyweight Championship in a scramble match, setting him up for a title showdown with Michaels. They had one last match - a ladder match - at Night of Champions 2008, and after a brutal battle, Jericho grabbed the title and won the war.
