10 Best WWE Matches That Ever Happened At Nassau Colliseum

2. Randy Orton Vs. Rob Van Dam - Raw January 12th 2004

WWE had decided by early 2004 that Randy Orton was going to be the next guy. It was already evident that Orton had something, a particular star quality, but now he was starting to back up his performances in the ring (after being plagued by injuries for the previous couple of years). Orton had sterling matches against the likes of Shawn Michaels in late 2003 and then segued into a feud with Rob Van Dam, winning the Intercontinental Championship at Armageddon in December. Van Dam got his automatic rematch in the main event of the January 12th 2004 Raw. And what a match it was, going almost twenty minutes (although a chunk of that was, admittedly, made up of the customary Randy Orton Chinlock Of Doom). There were a couple of ropey moments and RVD sloppiness but it was a great match most of the way and had an evil finish: Orton DDT'd Van Dam, who was crotched on the top rope, spiking his head into the mat.
