Pipebomb time.

Aside from a few notable moments, 2011 was a largely saccharine, flat time to be a WWE fan. The product was sickeningly glossy, feuds were uninspiring and the same old faces were in the same old spots at the top of the card. Then, CM Punk came along, delivered some harsh home truths and had Attitude era-lovers eating from the palms of his hands.

In late-June, Punk performed a scathing critique of WWE life behind the scenes, insulted everyone from John Cena to Stephanie McMahon and Triple H, said things would be better when Vince was dead and name dropped Ring Of Honor. Finally, he promised to run down his contract, win the WWE Title at MITB and leave with the belt.

The whole segment ruled, and it stirred more interest in WWE's product than there had been in quite some time. Suddenly, lapsed fans were reading about Punk's show-closing tirade online and rushing back to see what all the fuss was about.
