10 Big Concerns Heading Into WWE Clash Of Champions 2020
8. All Filler, No Killer
The problem with an event like Clash of Champions is that the matches are simply products of a PPV that has demanded they exist. Every champion must defend their title and therefore every one of them must be featured on the card... even if there's very little effort made to get them there.
We'll talk in more detail about what an event such as this means for the ongoing storylines in a moment, but a number of the matches that are taking place feel like they've either been strung together out of thin air or at the very last minute.
Bayley vs. Nikki Cross is a pointless rematch because the former must wait until Hell In A Cell to battle Sasha Banks. On the other hand, there's Asuka who has been relegated to the pre-show where she must defend her Raw Women's Championship against Zelina Vega in a match that was only scheduled on Raw (more on that later, too).
Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler's tag title defense against the Riott Squad doesn't sound particularly inspiring either nor does the rematch of a rematch of a rematch we're getting for the Raw Tag Team Championship.
As it stands, Clash of Champions feels like an inconvenience that WWE must adhere to and thus, the majority of the card is them fulfilling that obligation with a whole lot of filler.
