10 Biggest AEW Success Stories (So Far)

7. Wardlow

When a vignette hyping the mysterious Wardlow character was played at All Out 2019, fans were, quite rightly so, confused as to who this man was. He wasn't a huge name on the independent circuit, like many of the other AEW signings were, and so no-one really knew what to expect from 'Mr. Mayhem'.

Wardlow has been built up superbly since officially debuting onscreen for AEW on the post-Full Gear 2019 episode of Dynamite. From that one moment alone, we knew Wardlow was in for a mammoth push; his debut saw him align with MJF by assaulting Cody, an Executive Vice President. Not just anyone gets this sort of treatment from the offset.

MJF's lackey didn't actually wrestle until the following February, but again, this was built to perfectly as part of the Cody vs. MJF build for Revolution. The Steel Cage bout he had opposite 'The American Nightmare' was one of the company's finest bouts of 2020.

Now a member of The Inner Circle, Wardlow seems destined for larger things when he inevitably distances himself from not only the Chris Jericho-led group, but also from MJF as a whole. This is something that AEW fans have been dying to see ever since Wardlow debuted as MJF's bodyguard. When he eventually decks 'The Salt of the Earth', a star will further take shape.
