10 Biggest Stories From NJPW's Destruction Events (And What They Mean Going Forward)
1. Jay White And Gedo Betray Okada And Chaos
Jay White attacked Hiroshi Tanahashi after the main-event, laying him out with his Blade Runner finisher. Then, White betrayed the Chaos stable when he turned his sights on fellow member Kazuchika Okada and began a vicious beatdown. YOSHI-HASHI, also a member of the group, ran in to make the save but was quickly dispatched with. With YOSHI-HASHI’s blood smeared across his face, Jay continued his onslaught on Okada until Gedo interrupted.
Shockingly, however, Okada’s former manager and one of the original members of Chaos joined in the betrayal -- striking Okada from behind with a steel chair. Gedo then took the mic and stated that his former protégé didn’t belong in the main event of the Tokyo Dome on 4 January. He cemented his spot at White's side by adding, “This man belongs; the Switchblade,” and that a “new era” was “coming soon.”
White will likely challenge for Tanahashi’s briefcase at New Japan’s next big event, King of Pro-Wrestling. However, Okada will surely look to retaliate against his former stablemates and if the Switchblade fails to steal away Tanahashi’s spot at Wrestle Kingdom, a match against Okada during the event is the most likely outcome.
