10 Biggest Talking Points From WWE SmackDown (Aug 16)
8. Short Division
Before the brand split, WWE actually had a great tag team division for the first time in almost 15 years. The New Day were on top as champs, and tandems like The Usos, Enzo and Cass, and The Club were viable contenders. American Alpha, of course, was waiting in the wings in NXT.
Instead, WWE decided to turn one deep tag team division into two very shallow ones. Raw got the better end of the deal, with New Day, The Club, and Enzo and Cass. Smackdown, meanwhile, has American Alpha, The Usos... and not much else.
The entire division was on display in a 12-man tag team match when American Alpha, The Usos, and The Hype Bros took on The Ascension, The Vaudevillains, and Breezango. It was ostensibly supposed to hype the division in preparation for the eventual creation of Smackdown Tag Team Titles, but all it did was expose it.
American Alpha are great. The Usos are very good, if a bit stale. The rest have all been jobbed out so badly that they can't be taken seriously. If WWE wants this division to work, they're going to have their work cut out for them. It's time to create some new teams on Smackdown.
