An icon of the game, Royce Gracie was around for the infancy of what we now know as the UFC.

Back then, there was no weight divisions and it was largely a free-for-all of brutality and carnage. You have to remember, this was a time where the only real rules were no biting, no eye gouging, no nut shots - on, and there was also no judges and no rounds.

If you think UFC these days is violent, back when it all began in 1993 it was a bloodier beast altogether. And standing as the king of those early UFC days was the utterly badass Royce Gracie.

The Brazilian amassed a win streak of 11-0 across the first four UFC events. At that point, the layout of each event saw each UFC show have a tournament system in place.

Gracie - dubbed The Ultimate Fighter - won three of the first four UFC tournaments, and the only reason he didn't win UFC 3 is because he withdrew from the event after winning his opening fight.

Every single one of the 11 victories that made up this win streak were by submission, and the majority came within the first two minutes of a contest. Added to that, even when Royce Gracie's win streak did come to an end, it was in a draw against Ken Shamrock.

The reason for the draw? That would be because the men put on the longest fight in UFC history at 36 minutes, and with no man backing down and no judges to make a decision, a draw was the end result.

Royce Gracie may not be at the top of the list for all-time winning streaks, but his is for sure the most brutal run featured here.
