10 Complete Wastes Of WWE Pay-Per-View Time

6. Goldust Recites Some Dr. Seuss (In Your House: D-Generation X)

When the character first appeared in late-1995, Goldust took pride of place as the most controversial gimmick in WWF history. Vince McMahon was keen to court some controversy with the androgynous, gold-painted weirdo, and he certainly achieved that. It's incredible to think now, but some did reportedly feel Dustin Runnels was risking his career by agreeing to the guise. As bizarre as it was, the original incarnation of Goldust was instantly striking. Fans couldn't help but be interested in what Runnels was doing with the character, and it remained intriguing even when initial homosexual overtones were turned down and then dropped. Later, things really started to get strange and by the end of 1997 Runnels had tweaked the character, now known as 'The Artist Formerly Known As Goldust'. At In Your House: D-Generation X in December, he emerged wearing a gaudy pink outfit and wig ensemble. Accompanied by a suitably freaky Luna Vachon, Goldust recited the Dr. Seuss short story 'Green Eggs And Ham'. The entire segment only took around 5 minutes in total, but it failed to hit the mark. Fans didn't know what to make of it, and Goldust had never seemed more tiresome.
