10 Content Additions That Would Improve WWE Network
5. WCW Saturday Night
Before the days of Nitro, WCW Saturday Night was the company's top show, even referred to as "The Mothership" ("Muthathip"?) by none other than Dusty Rhodes for years. Airing on Ted Turner's TBS network, the show was pretty much a less extravagant version of shows like Nitro and Raw. All of the top names in WCW wrestled and did interviews on Saturday Night, and titles changed hands semi-regularly (although never the World Title), but the show was usually taped weeks in advance, and in front of a studio audience that wasn't quite as rowdy as the live event crowds fans are used to today. If you wanted to take things to another level, this could also include the show back when it was referred to as NWA World Championship Wrestling in the 1980's. It was the same show, more or less, but was back when the company was still in a strong relationship with the NWA, and it wasn't as bright and as "showy" as Saturday Night, which began in the vibrant 1990's, where flashy colors and lights were the "in" thing. If you watch Ric Flair DVDs and video packages, you'll undoubtedly see promo after promo that he cut, hyping up feuds with the likes of Dusty Rhodes, Sting, Ricky Steamboat, and so on. These are the shows that would feature those promos. Again, this was before Nitro came along (although Saturday Night would last until 2000, after Nitro and Thunder were brought into the mix), so this was the show to watch if you were a WCW fan. Hulk Hogan's official WCW debut? On Saturday Night. Randy Savage's WCW debut? On Saturday Night. It was the place to be before Nitro became the place to be.
