10 Content Additions That Would Improve WWE Network
3. Mid-South Programming
Like the AWA, Mid-South Wrestling received a DVD and Blu-Ray set presented by WWE, but it was only a small taste of what the company had to offer. Bill Watts had a lot of success running Mid-South in states like Texas, Arkansas and Oklahoma. This was, of course, back in the days of territories, when one particular company laid claim to certain parts of the United States like "turf". If it wasn't your "turf", you simply didn't run shows there. With the likes of Ted DiBiase, Jake Roberts, Junkyard Dog, Jim Duggan, "Dr. Death" Steve Williams, Paul Orndorff and others, Watts always had a strong roster, and his desire to run a more episodic-style of shows every week helped to change the wrestling business forever. Many of his biggest names would go on to achieve more notoriety when they were in the WWF or WCW, but many would say those names were in their wrestling prime during their Mid-South years. JYD was a huge star there. Ted DiBiase would be a top heel and a top face there. It was a great place to be for a few years until, like every other territory, they couldn't compete with the likes of the WWF and the burgeoning WCW. Mid-South television programming was airing on TBS for a while, and pulled in really good ratings, and some of their "supershows" ran in huge arenas, bringing in tens of thousands of fans when that kind of business was rare with territories. It would make for a good addition to the Network, if only to show the forefather of the "WWE Style" of television and booking.
