10 Current Superstars WWE Has No Idea What To Do With
2. Rusev
By this point, Rusev should be one of the biggest heels in the company. USA vs. the world storylines are as outdated as it gets, but him and Lana were drawing massive heat in the early days. Unfortunately, feuding with John Cena completely crippled his momentum, the Summer Rae/Dolph Ziggler storyline killed his credibility, and the less said about the League of Nations, the better.
WWE attempted to rehabilitate Rusev last year, but just when it looked like he was recovering, along came Roman Reigns to spoil the party. Rusev has since found himself feuding with Enzo Amore & Big Cass (and bizarrely aligned with Jinder Mahal), but he has become a bit part player. Where he once looked destined for the top, Rusev and Lana have become a momentum-less preliminary act whose only purpose is to put others over.
Rusev’s skill as a performer saves him from complete obscurity, but he’s not far away from it. He’s one of the best wrestlers that the Performance Center has built from the ground-up, and a surprisingly entertaining presence on the microphone. Moreover, his gimmick makes for easy heat from the crowd, and he has proven himself as a performer time and time again. Sadly, WWE have no idea how to harness these qualities at the moment, and his potential may have already been squandered.
