10 Defining Matches That Make People Hate John Cena

6. Team WWE vs. Team Nexus - SummerSlam 2010

Perhaps the greatest storyline of the past five years in the WWE has to be the arrival of The Nexus back in 2010. Their arrival was one of the most explosive pieces of television the WWE has ever seen, with them dismantling the entire Raw set in ruthless fashion. The storyline and situation surrounding the faction was enthralling, and the way they went about their business was just as exciting. All in all, it was a great piece of booking by the WWE to build them up into a top faction with bags of potential - but they shot themselves in the foot by booking them into a rivalry with John Cena. Of course, if Cena had lost out in this match at SummerSlam back in 2010, things could have been so much different for The Nexus. However, this match - and the whole rivalry in general - is by far the biggest example of Cena burying fellow WWE stars. Where as Alberto Del Rio and Umaga had the opportunity to bounce back - even though they didn't - The Nexus had no way back from this beating. Their momentum was well and truly halted in one swoop, and they were soon disbanded, being cast into the WWE archives. You look at the momentum The Shield put together before their recent split, and it could have been the same story for the group led by Wade Barrett. But when Cena pinned Barrett to conclude that 14-man elimination match, it put a huge nail in the coffin. They never recovered, and Cena continued to go about his business like nothing had happened. Of all the matches that leave a sour taste in the mouth of WWE fans, there can't be many worse than this horrific result.
