10 Dream Wrestling Matches (That We Really Needed To Happen This Decade)

2. Shawn Michaels Vs. AJ Styles

The fact that Shawn Michaels is featured multiple times on this list is a both a testament to his incredible body of work and his enduring appeal. We've already referenced how he almost spent an entire decade retired without going back on his word, but if there was ever an opponent he should have come out of retirement for, it was undoubtedly AJ Styles.

Styles is arguably the best in the business today. Like Michaels, the veteran knows how to put on a show-stopping performance while also understanding the importance of telling a story in the ring, so you can imagine how well a showdown between the pair may have went down had it taken place.

The fact that it never happened during Michaels' incredible eight-year comeback is nobody's fault, simply because Styles was busy making a name for himself in TNA and by the time he arrived in WWE, HBK had been retired for six years. However, the fact that the-powers-that-be were able to convince Michaels to come out of retirement and didn't book him in a match that we've all been craving for years is entirely on WWE.

Again, Michaels may have been a little rusty during his comeback at Crown Jewel 2018, but his performance was not the worst thing about that match - so with the right person, the Heartbreak Kid of old just might have been capable of a one-night-only resurrection, and Styles could have been that person.
