10 DUMB WWE Face Turns (We Didn't Want To Admit Were GENIUS!)

5. Vince McMahon (1999)

Vince's onscreen character was technically heel in latter years before his retirement and the grim legal proceedings that are still ongoing, but that didn't always ring true. Fans grew accustomed to expecting something grand whenever McMahon was advertised, so there was a bit of babyface buzz. Chants of, "Thank you, Vince" were commonplace at shows.

Things were different in the late-90s, but that didn't prevent McMahon from trying a face role after years of stellar heel work. In 1999, he feuded with Triple H in a power struggle that included his daughter Stephanie. During the story, Vince was presented as the good guy. It was refreshing, and made what came next impactful.

Everyone knew McMahon would turn heel again eventually. He screwed The Rock over at WrestleMania 2000, and resumed business as usual on the baddie side. The strength of his babyface work vs. Hunter shouldn't be overlooked. It seemed fanciful that he'd get cheered at all, but audiences were right up for it.

Perhaps everyone could've done without that one week WWF Title reign mind. Can't win 'em all!
