10 Familiar Faces AEW Should Sign
4. Chris Sabin
It would be amazing to see The Motor City Machine Guns in the incredibly stacked tag team division, especially with their great matches with the Young Bucks in ROH and NJPW. But it doesn’t seem clear yet whether Shelley is returning to being a full-time wrestler. He has made a few one-off appearances, including the Summer Supercard this month but it still doesn’t seem like a full-on return just yet. Of course, you can never say never. That said, Chris Sabin in his own right is much more than a “consolation prize”.
The value in the timing of AEW’s schedule couldn’t be more perfect for Sabin. After suffering a torn ACL in January, Chris was due to be out for eight to twelve months - which just so happens to coincide with one or two of AEW’s biggest events of the year depending on his recovery time: All Out and their television debut. Almost as perfectly aligned as Moxley's return was.
The value in signing Sabin (and maybe Shelley) isn’t just his ability in the ring but in his experience. A 19 year veteran of the business, he could be a perfect “player-coach” type presence in the locker room. Plus the wealth of experience he has had in tag team wrestling will bring advice and teaching moments for the younger teams like Private Party.
And there may be one other man who rivals his experience in tag team wrestling...
