10 Fatal Mistakes Of WWE's 2001 Invasion
2. Not Pushing What He Was Given

Okay, so Vince didn’t want to wait. Fine. He took the 20-some WCW wrestlers he had under contract, and rushed them into war. What he needed to do then was pick out a couple names, and push them as if they were equal to his homegrown talent.
They may not have been as good, and he may not have believed they were even in the same league as his guys, but for the angle to work, Vince had to try to portray the top WCW guys as dangerous on TV.
The obvious choices to push as top stars were Booker T and DDP. But DDP was absolutely destroyed by The Undertaker in their first face-to-face meeting at King of the Ring 2001. Like a 100% beatdown as if he were just a jobber. Even a low-blow, and a chairshot from Page only kept The Deadman down for a few seconds. It was a massacre, and an absolutely idiotic call on Vince’s part. Hell, Taker himself should have stepped in and said they’d make more money if he didn’t destroy DDP.
At the Invasion, The Alliance technically won the night, but the WWF got a lot of their heat back in the matches, and the next month at SummerSlam, Vince’s side won the top three bouts. This is because he wouldn't dare let any WCW wrestler look even half-way competent. The angle was basically dead in a month due to this decision, and then painfully dragged out from there.
