10 Fatal Mistakes Of WWE's 2001 Invasion
9. Lance Storm Strikes First

You only get one shot at something like this. WCW vs. The WWF. Two companies who had been battling each other for wrestling supremacy for years were finally going to settle their incredibly personal rivalry once-and-for-all in the ring. Any fan who had been dreaming of a moment like this had to have been absolutely underwhelmed with the first shot taken.
Ideally, WCW would have done a Nexus-type beatdown angle to kick the story off. Imagine a Raw main event involving Austin, The Rock, Undertaker and Kane being interrupted by Goldberg, Sting, Ric Flair, Scott Steiner, Booker T, DDP, Hulk Hogan and more of Ted Turner's best, absolutely destroying everyone and everything in sight. That would have been one of the biggest events in the history of the business.
What WWE chose to start the war with was Lance Storm superkicking Perry Saturn in the face in a meaningless Raw tag match. How in the hell did anyone think that was the way to go? The next attack saw Hugh Morrus giving Edge a moonsault. You have to wonder if the roles were reversed if WCW would have introduced the WWF talent in such a terrible way. They sure didn't with the NWO.
These moments, which should be etched in our minds, were about as lackluster as you could get. The Invasion was off to a terrible start.
