10 Gimmicks WWE Desperately Need To Change In 2016
7. Stardust
It's easy to forget how much of a fantastic worker Cody Rhodes is, given the number of silly one-note gimmicks he's been saddled with over the years. Stardust was an interesting diversion at first, but it's quickly become stale. Like Bray Wyatt these days, Stardust seems to only exist to allow for lazy writing. "Why has he picked Cesaro for his next feud? Because he's crazy, of course". No further explanation is ever provided. Many speculated that Rhodes would be dropping the gimmick after the death of his legendary father in June, but WWE kept him heel. For a character that originally started off in a semi-comedic angle alongside brother Goldust, Cody's alter-ego has really outstayed its welcome. It's worth mentioning that Rhodes must be considered one of the most versatile performers on the roster, as well as a convincing actor, capable of lending his charismatic presence to a variety of angles (both serious and light-hearted). The fact that he's been held back for so long - with a gimmick that had quickly run its course in a month or two - is a serious case of squandered potential. Hopefully, in 2016, he can escape the shackles of Stardust and begin anew.
