10 Great Moments In Average WWE Careers

2. Mark Henry's ‘Retirement Speech'

Mark Henry will enter the WWE Hall of Fame one day, a triumph of longevity and a willingness to humiliate himself in the name of Vince McMahon’s perverted humour.

Of Henry’s 22 years in WWE, only a couple of them produced his best work, and it took him 15 years to shake off the ghost of having sex with Mae Young with this career-best promo. ‘The World’s Strongest Man’ duped everybody with his fake retirement announcement, only to then lay out John Cena and signal his intention to challenge for his WWE Championship.

So convincing was the emotion and conviction of Henry’s delivery, and the work of the RAW commentators, that he had every single fan in attendance on their feet clapping him off into the sunset, which only made the subsequent swerve all the more brilliant and effective.

It is one of the best promos of the last decade and the highlight of Henry’s WWE career.
