10 Great WWE Characters That Have Grown Stale

3. Tommaso Ciampa

Undoubtedly one of the great NXT success stories, Tommaso Ciampa is at a crossroads in his WWE career. Once the number one heel on the yellow brand, Ciampa has been overtaken by a number of performers and finds himself somewhat lost in the shuffle. Karrion Kross beat him back into a heel persona, but the Sicilian Psychopath just doesn't have the magnetism that he once did.

The Ciampa that was obsessed with 'Goldie' was one of the great characters of modern WWE, a laser-focused bad guy who would do whatever it took to get what he wanted. He was helped by a career feud with uber-babyface Johnny Gargano, but Ciampa was that rarest of modern WWE characters: a despicable heel that fans wanted to see get his comeuppance.

All of this has gone. Ciampa has done all that there is to do in NXT, and fans might not be particularly optimistic about a move to the main roster. Will he be able to find that magnetism once more, that intangible something that made him one of the most believable characters in the entire company?

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
