10 Greatest Tag-Teams WWE Missed Out On

4. The Rock N' Roll Express

Regularly on his podcast, Steve Austin will fondly recall the antics of Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson. Known as The Rock N' Roll Express, the pair provided the template later followed by The Rockers and other smaller, more athletic tag-teams. Together, they were a smash hit during the 1980's in companies like the NWA and the AWA.

Into the 1990's, Gibson and Morton appeared in WCW and even the WWF on rare occasions. As part of Jim Cornette's Smoky Mountain Wrestling promotion, they were able to take bookings in other companies. A feud with The Heavenly Bodies (also of SMW) led to a match at the Survivor Series 1993 pay-per-view.

That would be Rock N' Roll's only real showing during their prime years in the promotion. A later role as part of the NWA invasion of the WWF during the 'Attitude Era' was short-lived. This means the McMahon-led organisation never really got to see the best of the team.

At their finest, The Rock N' Roll Express were one of the most exciting babyface teams around. There was a real glut of tag-teams in the WWF during the 1980's, but Gibson and Morton would only have added to the quality.
