10 Greatest WWE WrestleMania Gimmick Matches
9. Cactus Jack & Chainsaw Charlie vs The New Age Outlaws (WrestleMania XIV)
Whether he’s working five star bouts with Ric Flair or mucking about with Mick Foley, it’s always great to see Terry Funk. Here, in his Chainsaw Charlie guise and some 54 years of age, he puts on a deeply silly dumpster match against tag champs The New Age Outlaws, and while it’s no classic, it’s brilliantly daft fun.
For those somehow unaware, the rules of a dumpster match are: you need to take your opponent, chuck them into a dumpster, and shut the lid. Most of the match comprises members of each team falling into the bin but crawling out before the lid can be slammed closed - it’s cartoonish wrestling but all concerned commit fully to the bit.
There are daft plunges from ladders and weapons shots, laid on thick as the era dictated. Eventually the match makes its way to the back, and Charlie utilises a forklift to dump the Outlaws and win the match.
In a Dusty finish, it would transpire that the dumpster used for the win was not the official dumpster, and the decision was reversed the following night. Why the rules would be upheld so stringently in this of all matches is a mystery, but this is a blast all the same.
