10 Hilarious Talk Show Appearances By WWE Stars

4. Jerry Lawler And Andy Kaufman On Late Night With David Letterman

Lawler was a decade away from working for WWE when this happened, but there's no way I can't include this. A lot of you probably know the basics: Lawler and Kaufman were feuding in Memphis, Lawler "injured Kaufman's neck" with two piledrivers in their first match, they went on Letterman's show, and all hell broke loose. See, Kaufman was a regular guest, a favorite of Letterman and his fans. Even though he was the heel in Memphis, he was the babyface to the hardcore Letterman fans and the national TV audience in general, especially when he explains that "bad guy wrestler" was "just a role" for him. The back and forth is fairly civil for several minutes with a lot of great comedy mixed in, and then things took a turn when Kaufman asked for an apology. As Letterman understood it, they would forgive and forget, ending the segment by singing "What The World Needs Now Is Love." That's not what Lawler and Kaufman actually had planned. Instead, it went like this: Kaufman: "I could have sued you, I could have sued you for everything you're worth, but I didn't, because I'm not that kind of guy." Lawler: "What kind of a guy are you?" As Letterman throws to a break, Lawler literally slaps Kaufman out of his chair. When they return, Kaufman runs from the curtain to the desk, screams the all-time greatest profanity-laced rant in TV history (bleeped when it aired, uncensored in this YouTube clip), and throws coffee at him. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PmHCx8lCl8Y While it may be difficult for some to grasp just why it's important out of context over 30 years later, it routinely shows up on greatest TV moment lists in TV Guide and similar publications, and with good reason.
