As an in-ring tandem for a spell back there, The Rockers were the most exciting tag team on the planet. Were they the best? Not quite. But they were still hugely entertaining to watch.

However, tensions began to rise amongst the team, particularly as it became increasingly clear that Shawn Michaels was being groomed as a top singles act. One such time this all came to a head was after a match in May 1991. And yes, like so many real-life wrestling scraps, booze was involved.

During a night of partying hard in a hotel, Roddy Piper began to stir the pot amongst Michaels and partner Marty Jannetty. As all three of them continued to drink into the night, Piper kept remarking how Shawn was destined to be a star and that he was the future of the business. Not taking kindly to this, Jannetty challenged his tag team partner to a fight.

A brawl would break out, with Jannetty getting the better of the future Heartbreak Kid. So much chaos did The Rockers cause that the police were called. As the story goes, the convenient arrival of 'Macho Man' Randy Savage on the scene stopped any arrests; the charming Savage convinced the police that this fight had simply been all part of a wrestling story, before Macho signed some autographs for the lawmen.

Having teamed together since 1985, The Rockers would finally split up on a January 1992 edition of Brutus Beefcake’s Barbershop.
