10 Independent Stars WWE Should Sign To NXT

3. Jay Lethal

Macho Man Jay Lethal I've always been a huge fan of Jay Lethal and feel like it has been a travesty that he hasn't had a chance to ply his craft on the biggest stage in the world. Luckily for Lethal, he still has plenty of time to achieve this. Making his pro wrestling debut in Jersey All Pro Wrestling in 2001, Lethal got off to an extremely quick start in the wrestling business. At the time, JAPW was one of the premier independent wrestling companies on the east coast and he took full advantage of the opportunities given to him. He made his debut in Ring of Honor shortly thereafter and was able to continue to develop against some of the top wrestlers on the scene at the time like Colt Cabana, Samoa Joe, Christopher Daniels and others. In due time, Lethal made his way to Ring of Honor and then TNA where his in-ring skills and charisma began to flourish. His portrayal of "Black Machismo", a tribute to "Macho Man" Randy Savage, gave Lethal recognition throughout the entire wrestling business. He later engaged in a feud with "Nature Boy" Ric Flair, in which he did a near spot-on impression of Flair during the feud. He had two major matches with Ric Flair and it looked like his career in TNA was continuing to flourish. However, Lethal was released from his TNA contract and made his return to Ring of Honor with much more name recognition and experience since his previous stint. This time, Lethal has been able to work as both baby face and heel and is the current TV Champion. There is no doubt that he's ready and really doesn't even need to go to NXT. However, we know that there is only one way to the main WWE roster in this era, and that's through NXT. At just 29 years old with over a decade of experience, Lethal still has the ability to make strides throughout the history of pro wrestling with a major run in WWE.
