10 Infamous Shoot Moments When WWE Got Real
6. Shawn Michaels Vs. A Battery
We’ve seen wrestlers get hit by all manner of objects: steel
chairs, prosthetic limbs, shopping trolleys, a mannequin. But batteries? That’s
a new one, and it very much wasn’t a part of the show.
Back in the build up to WrestleMania XIV, during a taping of WWF Superstars, D-Generation X were hosting their “public workout” when Shawn Michaels was struck by a battery that someone had lobbed from the crowd.
You could argue that Michaels should simply have taken this in his stride and continued with his promo, but remember the time period we’re talking about here. This was 1990s Shawn Michaels; it didn’t take much for him to blow a fuse.
With total disregard for the show at hand, Michaels left the ring and stormed backstage. Naturally an argument with Vince McMahon ensued, before the then-WWF Champion calmed himself down and eventually returned to the fray.
McMahon has since spoke of the reality of the situation, and later conceded that Michaels “was not in the right frame of mind that day". That day? Try the entire decade, Vince. Then again, I do love the drama of ‘90s Shawn Michaels, so who am I to criticise?
