10 Insane WrestleMania Main Events That Nearly Happened

2. Jerry Lawler Vs. John Cena

Jerry "The King" Lawler was 61-years-old when he faced The Miz for the WWE Championship at Elimination Chamber 2011.

That's quite the achievement for a man who held the AWA Southern Heavyweight Championship an astonishing 58 times, but never raised gold above his head in WWE. When he finally got his shot, live on pay-per-view, fans were invested. Absurdly, it was all part of the feud between Lawler and Michael Cole (yes, the WWE title was just a prop to setup a match between commentators), and the man who was living in his "Cole Mine" at ringside had cost "The King" in a match on Raw a few weeks earlier.

Obviously, one of the oldest ever challengers for the WWE strap didn't go to WrestleMania, but he was a rope break away from walking into the biggest show of the year to both commentate and main event. Taz could never...

Would The Rock have still interfered to cost John Cena the match? Let's not forget that Cena-Miz was another match where the WWE belt was pushed aside for a different feud, so giving the belt to Lawler doesn't seem outside the realms of possibility.

When I'm not trying my hardest to visit all 50 U.S. states, I'm listening to music from the 80s, watching TV from the 90s, and reminiscing about growing up in the 00s. I'm currently living in Melbourne, Australia so WWE premium live events are on Sunday afternoons for me; the absolute dream.
