10 Jaw-Dropping Times WWE Blurred The Lines

3. Matt Hardy Vs. Edge

While that CM Punk saga from 2011 was based on the possibility of him leaving, here we have a feud that was very much inspired by something that actually happened, rather than mere postulation.

In 2005, Matt Hardy’s relationship with Lita ended after she had an affair with Edge in real-life; no stories, angles, or scripts here, folks. Separate circumstances later saw Hardy released from the WWE, but he soon found his way back into the fold when it was decided that this love triangle would be used as an on-screen storyline.

With Hardy baying for blood, he made a dramatic return to Monday Night Raw, taking out Edge to the delight of the crowd and setting in motion a bitter feud that would span many of the summer months.

Most of the entries on this list have been simply inspired by elements of truth, or based loosely on plausible realities, but here we had an angle that was an example of art imitating life.
