To say that Goldberg didn't enjoy his first WWE run would be a gross understatement.

Any fears the ex-WCW powerhouse might've had about how he'd be treated in Vince McMahon's system must've been confirmed when he was working lengthy matches and wearing wigs in comedy segments with Goldust. This messy 2003-2004 stint was a total flop.

In interviews shortly after returning to the company in 2016, Bill spoke about how he wanted to put things right and for his young son to see him at his dominating best. He hadn't been portrayed as the same squash-match killer he had been in WCW - WWE tried to give Goldberg some personality, but it didn't fit.

Bruce Prichard said on his 'Something To Wrestle With' show that Vince McMahon really wanted to bring the best out in Bill. His way of doing that was by ripping up everything WCW had done and trying to make Goldberg something he wasn't. It was never going to work, and Bill realised that early in his run.
