10 Major Stars Who Weren’t At WWE SummerSlam 2019 (Even Though They Should Have Been)

It's rather incredible that the powers-that-be have managed to bury Asuka twice now. While both burials were head-scratchers, the most unforgivable of the two was undoubtedly the second - when Charlotte Flair (who already destroyed her initial push by ending her undefeated streak at WrestleMania last year) defeated her earlier this year to win the SmackDown Women's Championship, only to add an extra layer to the already over-bloated WrestleMania 35 main event.

Since then, Asuka has done nothing of significance - lingering in mediocrity as she makes the occasional appearance on SmackDown Live - which is, of course, a terrible misuse of the talented 'Empress of Tomorrow'. However, an appearance at SummerSlam really could have changed things for her and, in doing so, made the show a little more enjoyable.

The SmackDown Women's Championship match between Bayley and Ember Moon was undoubtedly one of the duds of the night. It wasn't bad by any means, but the WWE Universe is indifferent to Bayley's reign as champion while there wasn't enough work done to Moon (who had also been sorely underutilised) to make her a convincing threat. As a result, the audience was completely disinterested.

Throwing in Asuka would have added a little more life to the match. Not only could a Triple Threat environment have been a lot more enjoyable than what we got, Asuka is one of the few superstars who fans still love in spite of the creative team's best efforts to destroy her. Thus, allowing her to compete here would have changed the dynamic of the dull bout and allowed her to achieve a little redemption in the process.
